Academic Staff Development & Quality Assurance.
The collaborating Schools are committed to the continuous enhancement of their human resources and to strengthening both education and research. To achieve these objectives, they implement quality assurance procedures for academic and other staff.
This document outlines the criteria used for staff appointment and promotion, the qualifications of current JEUPS faculty, the institutional supports for professional development, and the international partnerships that enable academic mobility.
Appointment & promotion criteria.
The evaluation for the appointment or promotion of members of the Teaching and Research Staff (TRS) is based on their overall teaching and research performance. The assessment covers multiple dimensions of academic contribution, each weighted in the context of the candidate's discipline and rank.
Dimensions of evaluation
Similar criteria apply to the selection of additional academic personnel, including doctoral and postdoctoral researchers employed under contract, in accordance with the provisions governing equivalent positions in the Greek-taught undergraduate programmes of the Schools.
Capabilities of the teaching staff.
The teaching staff possess the expertise and capability to effectively deliver courses within the Joint Undergraduate Programme of Studies in English (JEUPS), as demonstrated through their academic profiles and experience. Each member holds strong academic credentials in their respective fields, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience.
What faculty bring to the classroom
- strong academic credentials in their respective disciplinary fields,
- substantial practical experience from sectors relevant to their disciplines,
- commitment to staying up to date with the latest developments and trends in their fields,
- capacity to facilitate interactive classroom discussions and foster critical thinking,
- experience encouraging students to apply their learning to real-world contexts,
- capacity to mentor students in achieving their academic and professional goals.
Overall, the academic staff are well equipped to teach and mentor students, supporting them across the full arc of their studies — from foundational coursework through to thesis and graduation.
Institutional support for development.
The Schools actively promote academic development through a range of mechanisms designed to support both teaching and research advancement.
Mechanisms for staff development
These initiatives strengthen the integration of teaching and research, while also supporting the scientific and professional advancement of staff. Both Schools encourage professional and academic development by facilitating access to various types of leave through efficient and streamlined procedures, in accordance with applicable legislation.
KEDIMA works closely with academic staff, students, and various administrative units of the University — including the General Directorate of Technical Services and Computerisation, the e-Governance Center, and the Library and Information Center — to enhance teaching practices and propose effective solutions to emerging challenges.
International partnerships & mobility.
The Schools' initiatives are further strengthened by the active participation of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in international networks and programmes. These collaborations provide academic staff with opportunities for international mobility in teaching, research, and training, contributing to their continuous professional development and awareness of global academic developments.
Networks & programmes
AUTh also participates in numerous other international organisations and associations, providing academic staff with opportunities to engage in teaching, research, and training activities outside Greece throughout their careers.
